So Many Lutherans
How Are We Different?

Lutheranism is a strong force in South Carolina.  The Columbia area, alone, is represented by churches from every major Lutheran synod, as well as a Lutheran seminary.

The question is sure to arise  --  what is different about Holy Trinity?

Holy Trinity congregation was formed as an independent Lutheran Church in 1965 by concerned Christians who came out of LCA (Lutheran Church in America) congregations and other groups after watching doctrinal error slowly infiltrate their churches and synods.  Throughout the years, other families have joined Holy Trinity as they recognized the doctrinal error infiltrating their previous congregations. More information about Holy Trinity...

After comparing the teachings of the CLC (Church of the Lutheran Confession) with Holy Scripture and with the Lutheran Confessions, we joined that church body in 1974. The CLC was officially organized in 1960.  Most of its original members came out of the old Synodical Conference, made up of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS), and the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LC-MS).   More Information on the CLC...

Both those who formed Holy Trinity and those who formed the CLC did so for the sake of maintaining the precious gospel of Christ against the inroads of error, all of which works to destroy the truth and bring down saving faith in the Word of salvation.

The CLC operates Immanuel Lutheran College, High School, and Seminary in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and is represented by congregations in 22 states, India, and Nigeria.  We are also serving congregations in Canada.  Information about ILC. Information about our missions.

We consider ourselves "confessional" Lutherans, because we believe and teach the scriptural doctrines that Lutherans of old confessed.  Although Holy Trinity Church remains independent from area Lutheran congregations, we are thankful that we are able to join in the Lord's work with the many, truly confessional churches throughout the nation who are a part of the CLC.

We offer you a church home which...

REGARDS THE BIBLE TO BE GOD'S WORD IN ALL ITS PARTS, And therefore the only absolute truth on which way we may safely build our hope of eternal life. (II Timothy 3:15-16, John 17:17)

PREACHES AND TEACHES FROM THE WORD OF GOD ALONE, And therefore does not offer the social, political, or theological opinions of men. (I Cor. 2:1-2)

VALUES FAITHFULNESS TO THIS WORD OF SALVATION above any seeming organizational advantage of numbers, money, or power. (John 8:31-32, Romans 16:17)

ALLOWS CHRISTIAN LIBERTY in all that is neither commanded nor forbidden by our Lord--bondage to no word of man regarding what should or should not be eaten, or drunk, or any such things. (Galatians 5:1, Colossians 2:16)

SEEKS PEOPLE IN ORDER TO SERVE THEM with the one thing needful--God's Word--that they might live forever by FAITH in Jesus Christ "who gave Himself as a ransom for ALL." (I Timothy 2:6)

SUBSCRIBES TO THE LUTHERAN CONFESSIONS because they are a true exposition of what God's Word teaches.

We invite all Lutherans who are familiar
with the teachings of the "old" Synodical Conference
to come and look us over.
We invite all others to compare our teachings
with those of Holy Scripture
to see if the CLC is truly what it claims to be --
A Christian Church body that strives
to preach, teach, and remain faithful
to the saving gospel of Jesus Christ
as revealed by God in His Word -- the Bible.
